My Creative Journey: Empowering Artists, Enriching Community

San Diego Made’s “My Creative Journey” | “Mi Viaje Creativo” is an ongoing program dedicated to supporting creative entrepreneurs in the Promise Zone neighborhoods. Through free workshops, speaker series, public art displays, and community events, we showcase local talent, foster collaboration, and provide opportunities for emerging artists to learn from established creatives.

Each quarter, four selected artists participate in a paid residency, gaining free workspace and a platform to share their creative processes, traditional art practices, and cultural heritage. This initiative not only celebrates artistic innovation but also strengthens community connections by ensuring that creative success stories are shared and accessible to all.

This program is made possible with support from the City of San Diego’s Commission for Arts and Culture, Space 4 Art, and the San Diego Made Factory.

Current Residency:

Beyond the Line by Rose Sanchez

Our current My Creative Journey Residency, Beyond the Line by Rose Sanchez, explores the intersection of history, community empowerment, and the power of storytelling through a series of immersive events. The theme highlights the ongoing journey of reclaiming spaces, reshaping narratives, and fostering generational wealth within the Black community. The residency will explore the following topics:

  • Storytelling as a Tool for Liberation

  • Community Empowerment & Legacy Building

  • Historical Reflection & Awareness

The Line represents both the historical barrier of redlining and the broader systems that continue to limit access. Beyond symbolizes the act of breaking through those boundaries—empowering the community to imagine and create new possibilities for ownership, identity, and connection. Film & Art serve as a mirror of the past and a vision for the future, allowing stories that have been historically erased to be seen and heard.

Rose Sanchez is an independent filmmaker and director, celebrated for seamlessly blending artistry with emotional resonance. Committed to fostering representation, she combines storytelling, screenwriting, and directing to create films that challenge conventions and ignite meaningful connections with her audience.
